a video projection of empty rooms
Current project: Documentation of squats
drawings
Plaster copies of things I found in squats
Full documentation is made from 3 parts. First part is about people, second- about things, third captures space. The viewer has to combine them in his/her mind to get the full picture. In the piece is very abstract- it does not actually capture nothing concrete. The documentation is done in a paradoxical way, so it is not be certain whether its true or not.

First part:
I portrayed people in squats, doing their daily activity. In my opinion, drawing is a perfect media for this documentation, because people can stay anonymous and it indicate my time spent drawing and relation with those people.

Second part:
I made a collection of casted items that I found in squats. When I cast these objects they just remind of the items that they used to be. Most of these things also loose their function or personal details.

Third part:
In the movie the camera moves from one room to another in a loop. The rooms are empty, without people so the viewer has to imagine people and scenes from the drawings to understand the full picture.
I am currently working on this part of the project.

This work is a a documentation of a certain way of living. I chose this topic because squats are being crack down on. In Netherlands its been few years since its illegal, in London they got a new law last year.

Squatters in this story are mysterious nomads, who live in outskirts of the society in abandoned places , surviving by using found things. In the way that the story captured it is unclear, does it still exist, has it ever existed?... I chose to make the piece in this way because these people does not wish to be known- they rather stay anonymous. And thats exactly the reason why the were an interesting subject to make a work about. In my opinion my piece is more that a documentation of squatters- it is also about every persons life and the evanescence.
